Teen Takes Vt. Amateur

Manchester, Vt. — Lang Farms 17-year-old Madison Corley produced a final-round 73 to win the Vermont State Women’s Golf Association amateur championship at Manchester Country Club in a tournament that saw a Quechee Club member finish in the top 10.

Corley, formerly a member of the Essex High golf team, edged Rutland’s Kristin Mahoney for the title. Corley shot round of 76-40-73—189 for the 45-hole championship, while Mahoney finished a shot back (79-39-72—190). Defending champion Holly Reynolds, of Morrisville’s Copley Country Club, took third place at 193 with a final-round 75.

Quechee’s Patricia DeCaire took the last top-10 slot, shooting 85 on Thursday to close at 210. Meriden’s Kathy Allbright, playing out of Killington’s Green Mountain National Golf Course, tied for 15th place with Quechee’s Shelly Yusko at 217.

Originally set for 54 holes, VSWGA officials shortened the championship to 45 holes after losing Tuesday’s first round to rain.
