Letter: Fishing for Fond Memories

To the Editor:

Reading Coleman Stokes’ fine article about bringing his friend’s young son fishing (“Fun Teaching a Kid to Fish,” Sunday Valley News, June 23) got me to thinking about when I was young and going fishing with my aunt and uncle. We were on the banks of the Connecticut River fishing for horned pout, and my aunt caught an eel. Boy, that was exciting! Ranging up and down Great Brook in Lebanon with my friends for native brookies, fishing the lower Mascoma River (before the dams were breached) for giant carp, getting rides to Mascoma Lake to try for perch and bass — what fun!

Keep up the good writing, Coleman. You are a gem.
