Pollard Leads Bentley to Win
New London — With Lebanon High School graduate Zach Pollard leading the way, the Bentley University men’s golf team won the Northeast Challenge tournament at Lake Sunapee Country Club on Sunday, beating Southern New Hampshire University by two strokes.
Pollard, a sophomore, led second-round play with a 1-over-par 71, his lowest score as a college golfer, and his 7-over 147 for 36 holes left him third overall in the tournament. American International’s Austin Ball (143) won the tourney, with SNHU’s Austin Fox second (146).
The tourney win was the Falcons’ sixth since the start of the 2011-12 season.
Dartmouth Men Win
Lewisburg, Pa. — The Big Green put three players in the top 10 to win the Bucknell Invitational.
Dartmouth used team rounds of 287 and 291 on Sunday to leapfrog Laval and win team honors, with Colgate, Bucknell and the hosts’ second team rounding out the top five at the par-70 Bucknell Golf Course. Senior Joey Maziar led Dartmouth, shooting a 6-over 216 for the weekend and dropping a playoff for individual honors to Laval’s Julien Marchand.
Women Third at Invite
Hanover — The Dartmouth women’s golf team took third place at the 11-school Dartmouth Invitational at Hanover Country Club.
Yale maintained its first-round lead to top Boston University by 23 strokes for the team title. Brown and Siena followed the Big Green in the top five.
Senior Sarah Knapp led Dartmouth, taking 10th after a final-round 77. Junior Jane Lee finished 14th, closing with a 3-over 75.
UConn 2, Dartmouth 0
Storrs, Conn. — Julie Hubbard’s 40-yard bomb in the second minute sent the Huskies to victory at Morrone Stadium, dropping the Big Green to 1-3 on the season.
Rachel Hill converted a Stephanie Ribeiro feed in the 35th minute for Connecticut’s other marker.
Tatiana Saunders recorded eight saves for the Big Green, which visits St. John’s on Friday.
