Vermont Cruises Past Albany, 70-45

Burlington — Trey Blue scored 15 points and three other Vermont players scored in double figures in a 70-45 win over Albany in men’s action yesterday.

Luke Apfeld, Sandro Carissimo and Candon Rusin each finished with 12 points for the Catamounts (9-5, 2-0 America East), who have won three of their last four games.

Vermont never trailed against the Great Danes (12-4, 1-1), who had their three-game winning streak snapped. The Catamounts jumped out to a 24-11 lead when Carissimo knocked down a 3-pointer with 7:18 left in the first half.

Blue, who went 7 of 10 from the floor, made a jumper as time expired before halftime to give Vermont a 35-19 advantage. The Catamounts continued their surge in the second half, leading by as many as 28 points to cruise along for the victory.

Stony Brook 65, UNH 49

Stony Brook, n.y. — Jameel Warney scored 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field to lead Stony Brook over New Hampshire.

Tommy Brenton pulled down 12 rebounds and had five points and five assists, and Anthony Jackson, Carson Puriefoy and Marcus Rouse scored nine points apiece for the Seawolves (10-4, 1-0 America East). Stony Brook’s bench outscored New Hampshire’s 27-6.

The Seahawks have won 11 consecutive conference games at home.

Chandler Rhoads led the Wildcats (4-10, 0-2) with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Patrick Konan scored 11 points. It was New Hampshire’s fifth consecutive loss, including eight in a row away from home.

Harvard 92, Rice 62

Cambridge, Mass. — Laurent Rivard and Wesley Saunders scored 21 points each and Harvard shot 64.6 percent from the field in a nonconference victory over Rice.

The victory was the 100th for coach Tommy Amaker against 61 losses in his six seasons at Harvard. His overall record is 276-200 in 16 seasons. The Crimson (8-5) shot better than 60 percent in each half and made 31 of 48 shots in the game.

Hartford 77, BU 74

Boston — Wes Cole scored 22 points and Hartford (9-6, 2-0 America East) rallied in the second half for a victory over Boston University (6-9, 0-2).

Maine 81, UMBC 66

Orono, Maine — Justin Edwards and Alasdair Fraser scored 17 points apiece and all five Maine starters hit double figures to lead the Black Bears (7-8, 2-0 America East) past Maryland-Baltimore County (2-13, 0-2).

Princeton 74, Elon 64

Elon, n.c. — Ian Hummer scored 28 points and Will Barrett scored all 17 of his in the first half as Princeton defeated Elon. Barrett connected five times from 3-point range for the Tigers (6-7), who were 6-for-8 behind the arc in the first half and led 41-32 at the break.

UMass 75, E. Michigan 61

Amherst, Mass. — Freddie Riley came off the bench in the first half to make five 3-pointers in a span of 3:41 to spark Massachusetts to its seventh consecutive win.

The first of Riley’s 3-pointers gave the Minutemen (10-3) a 13-12 lead, and they led by 10 points, 25-15, after the last of them, with 7:58 until halftime.
