Hawks Soar Past Green
West Hartford, Conn. — Hartford outlasted the Dartmouth College women’s basketball team 56-43 on Saturday at Chase Family Arena.
Big Green sophomore Lakin Roland had 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Dartmouth shot 29 percent from the field and Hartford shot 41 percent, despite connecting on just six attempts in the second half. The Hawks led 40-22 at the half.
Dartmouth junior Abbey Schmitt finished with 12 rebounds and classmate Kamala Thompson collected seven boards off the bench. Though the offense was stymied all contest, freshman Fanni Szabo added nine points.
Alyssa Englert finished with nine points for Hartford and Mayza added eight. The Hartford bench scored 29 of the teams’ 56 points.
The Big Green will host Harvard next Saturday in the Ivy League opener at 2 p.m.
UMass Boston 79 Colby-Sawyer 68
Boston — Carl Joseph scored 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as UMass Boston (4-5) defeated Colby-Sawyer (4-5).
Mike Dias led Colby-Sawyer his team with 18 points and had nine rebounds, and Koang Thok added 17 points aand Wol Majong 13.
Boston U. 3, Dartmouth 2
Boston — Sarah Lefort’s second-period goal snapped a 2-2 tie to lift eighth-rankled Boston University (15-3-1) past Dartmouth (3-12-0).
Lefort netted her team-best 11th goal of the season at 8:18 of the second period for the Terriers.
The contest was the fourth straight against Hockey East foes for the Big Green, and it also marked its final nonconference game of the season.
Karlee Odland and Kennedy Ottenbreit scored for Dartmouth.
Dartmouth freshman goalie Robyn Chemago made 28 saves, while BU’s Kerrin Sperry stopped 28 shots.
Over the game’s final 90 seconds, the Big Green fired four shots at goal, but Sperry stood her ground and kept the puck out of the net as BU held on.
Dartmouth returns to the ice next weekend, when Yale and Brown come to town.
