Former Dartmouth Athletics Administrator Dismissed at Stony Brook
Jim Fiore, an assistant director of athletics at Dartmouth College from 1995-99, was unexpectedly fired last week after 10 years as Stony Brook University’s athletic director. Newsday reported that the school, located on Long Island, N.Y., bought out the remaining 31 months of his contract for a total of $800,000.
Fiore moved on to Princeton as the Tigers’ associate director of athletics before being hired at Stony Brook in 2003 and at age 34. Under his leadership, the Seawolves began building a new basketball arena, sent their baseball team to the College World Series and raised their athleticf profile both in the Northeast and on the national scene.
No reason was made public for Fiore’s dismissal, but his public relations representative stressed that it was not part of any disciplinary action.
