Boston — Red Sox right fielder Shane Victorino has undergone surgery to release a nerve in his right thumb.

Boston said Dr. Thomas Graham operated in Cleveland and that Victorino is expected to be ready to participate in spring training.

Victorino hit .294 with 15 homers, 61 RBIs and 21 stolen bases in his first season with the Red Sox, and his three-run double off the Green Monster sparked the Red Sox to their Game 6 win over St. Louis and their third World Series title in 10 seasons.

Braves Add Floyd to Rotation

Atlanta — The Atlanta Braves added a needed veteran for their rotation Monday when they agreed to a $4 million, one-year contract with right-hander Gavin Floyd. Now the question is when Floyd will be ready to pitch.

Floyd, 30, is recovering from surgery in May to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and a torn flexor muscle in his right elbow. That ended his seventh season with the Chicago White Sox.

He passed a physical in Atlanta on Monday before completing the deal, which also includes roster and performance bonuses.

Floyd said his arm “feels tremendous.”

Royals Add 2B Infante

Kansas City, Mo. — The Royals have finalized a $30.25 million, four-year contract with veteran Omar Infante to become their primary second baseman.

An agreement was reached Friday, and the deal was announced Monday night.

Infante, who turns 32 on Dec. 26, should stabilize second base after the Royals churned through six players last season. None of them did enough to earn the job.

Tribe Adds Axford

Cleveland — After considering some in-house options, the Cleveland Indians may have found their new closer on the outside.

Free agent John Axford, who had 46 saves for Milwaukee in 2011 but has struggled the past two seasons, has agreed to terms on a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Indians, pending a physical. Axford is expected to undergo a medical exam on Wednesday.

As long as there are no issues, Axford will close for the Indians in 2014, replacing Chris Perez, who was released on Oct. 31.

Rockies, Logan Finalized

Denver — Boone Logan and the Colorado Rockies completed their $16.5 million, three-year deal on Monday.

The left-handed reliever has spent the last four seasons with the New York Yankees. He was 5-2 with a 3.23 ERA in 2013.

Logan will make $4.75 million next year, $5.5 million in ’15 and then $6.25 million in ’16.

D-backs Add ChiSox Closer

Phoenix — The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired closer Addison Reed from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for third base prospect Matt Davidson.

Reed, who turns 25 later this month, ranked fifth in the American League and seventh overall in the majors with 40 saves last season.

In 68 appearances, he went 5-4 with a 3.79 ERA and had eight blown saves. He walked 23 and struck out 72. Opponents batted .215 against the right-hander.

The 22-year-old Davidson made his major league debut last season, appearing in 31 games with Arizona. He hit .237 with three homers. In 115 games with Triple-A Reno last year, Davidson hit .280 with 32 doubles, 17 homers and 74 RBIs.

Arizona selected Davidson in the first round of the 2009 draft, the 35th selection overall.
