Dartmouth Field Hockey Wins First
Berkeley, Calif. — A hat trick and an assist from junior Ali Savage helped the Dartmouth College field hockey team pick up its first win of the 2013 campaign in a 4-3 defeat of UC-Davis on Sunday afternoon at the University of California-Berkeley.
Savage’s three-goal game was the third of her career, having achieved one in each of her first two seasons. Sophomore Jessica Barfield also made a splash against the Aggies (1-2) by scoring her first varsity goal in the 53rd minute on a pass from Savage.
Dartmouth (1-1) had to hold on late after UC-Davis scored twice to cut into what had been a 4-1 Big Green lead. Junior Ellen Meyer finished with 11 saves for Dartmouth, which visits Northeastern on Friday.
Evanston, Ill. — After a scoreless first half, the Wildcats (1-4-1) struck twice in the second to stop the Big Green (0-2) at Lakeside Field.
Georgia Waddle netted the game-winner in the 51st minute for Northwestern. Katie Landgrebe chipped home an insurance marker in the 74th, and Jenna Hascher posted a six-save shutout.
Tatiana Saunders had three saves for Dartmouth, which hosts Fordham on Friday night in its home opener.
