Big Green Volleyball Sweeps Pair
Poughkipsee, n.y. — The Dartmouth College women’s volleyball team swept both UMass-Lowell and Hartford on the final day of the Volley in the Valley Tournament hosted by Marist College on Saturday, the Big Green taking both matches by 3-0 scores to improve to 2-1 on the young season.
In a 25-16, 25-21, 25-19 sweep of the RiverHawks, Molly Kornfeind led the Dartmouth offensive attack with a match-high 14 kills while Emily Astarita added eight. Holly Harper had a match-best 12 digs and Stacey Benton led the team with 33 assists.
Against Hartford — a match Dartmouth claimed by scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-14 — the Big Green combined for 28 kills, 26 assists and 46 digs. After a tightly contested opening set, Dartmouth won the second set by eight points and the third by 11.
Kayden Cook dished out a team-best 21 assists against the Hawks.
Dartmouth hosts the two-day Big Green Invitational beginning Friday, with Grand Canyon, Manhattan, Providence and Central Connecticut State coming to Leede Arena.
New London — The Chargers swept Bridgewater State, 3-0, and rallied past the University of New England, 3-2, to improve to 3-2 on the season
Colby-Sawyer took the opening match by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-13. Junior Stephanie Vecchio led the offense with 10 kills, followed by nine from Emilee McBride.
UNE had one-set leads on the Chargers twice in their match, but Colby-Sawyer claimed the affair with a 15-8 decision in the tiebreaking mini-set. Courtney O’Hara paced CSC with 14 kills.

New London — The Chargers (2-1) scored in each half and rode nine-save shutout goalkeeping from Nick Austin to blank the Panthers (0-1).
Freshman Andrew Clothier scored off his own rebound in the 29th minute to put Colby-Sawyer ahead for good. Alex Ortega followed a Clothier rebound for the Chargers’ second goal seven minutes into the second half.

South Hadley, Mass. — Aided by a pair of tallies in the second half of the game, the Chargers (4-0) blanked the Lyons to remain unbeaten.
Lauren Bernard scored in the first half for Colby-Sawyer. Tallon Tomasi and Rachel Quaye added swecond-half goals, and sophomore goalkeeper Karley Hamilton — the former Oxbow High starter — produced a four-save shutout.
Lebanon High grad Cassidy Robinson nearly broke through for the Lyons in the second half, firing just over the crossbar with 15 minutes to play.
Beverly, Mass. — Second-half goals from Elizabeth LeClair and Morgan Bresnahan paced the Gulls (2-1) past the Chargers (0-2).
Former Stevens High goaltender Jodi Dumayne kept Colby-Sawyer in the contest with 11 saves, including eight in the first half.
