Dartmouth Sophomore Earns Ivy League Award
Hanover — Sophomore Gabas Maldunas capped his season with the Dartmouth College men’s basketball team by earning the final Ivy League player of the week award in the Big Green’s sweep of Cornell and Columbia last weekend.
The award served as a bookend for Maldunas, who also was named player of the week following the first week of play in November. The 6-foot-9 forward scored a career-high 28 points in Friday’s 76-62 win over the Big Red.
He followed that up with 16 points and nine rebounds in Saturday’s 64-58 defeat of the Lions that sent Dartmouth to a tie for sixth in the league standings.
The Big Green finished with a 5-9 league mark and a 9-19 overall record, winning three of its last four contests.
Calby Shares Honors
Princeton, n.j. — Dartmouth junior Liz Calby earned a share of the Ivy League’s player of the week award yesterday after factoring in more than a third of the goals the Big Green scored in a 12-7 win over No. 21 Boston University and a 14-9 loss to No. 2 Florida last week.
The Darien, Conn., native split four goals and four assists evenly over the two contests. Her second score against BU stretched the Big Green’s lead to 5-1, and Dartmouth cruised from there to victory. Both of Calby’s goals against the Gators came in the first half.
Dartmouth visits Duke on Sunday.
