Burlington — Andrew Lawrence scored 21 points and Anthony Stitt added 19 as College of Charleston pulled away in the second half for a 62-50 victory over Vermont in a nonconference men’s game yesterday.

The two combined to score 21 of the final 25 points for the Cougars (8-4), starting with a 3-pointer by Lawrence with 10 minutes remaining that gave Charleston a 40-35 lead.

The Cougars shot 52.2 percent (12 of 23) in the second half to 30 percent (9 of 30) for the Catamounts (7-5).

Vermont led 22-19 with 3:40 left in the first half, but Stitt hit a tying 3-pointer and Lawrence added two baskets before Charleston went into halftime ahead 26-23.

Lawrence had five assists and Willis Hall grabbed 12 rebounds for the Cougars, who are 4-0 on the road this season.

Clancy Rugg led Vermont with 11 points, and Brian Voelkel had 13 rebounds.

Boston College 70
Holy Cross 60

Boston — Patrick Heckmann connected on five 3-pointers en route to 19 points, Ryan Anderson scored 18 and grabbed 10 rebounds and Boston College beat Holy Cross in the 112th meeting between the intrastate rivals.

The Eagles (7-5) went 10-for-24 (41.7 percent) on 3-point attempts to earn their fourth straight win. They’ve won 17 of the last 19 meetings with Holy Cross, located about 35 miles away in Worcester.

Eric Obeysekere led Holy Cross (7-6) with 17 points and Dave Dudzinski had 15. The Crusaders were 2-for-19 on 3-point attempts.

Boston College was clinging to 37-35 lead early in the second half before it broke the game open with 15 straight points over a 6:26 stretch. Heckmann started the spree by banking in a 3-pointer from the right wing. He added another 3 from the right side just over a minute after Olivier Hanlan’s 3 from the left wing.

Colorado 80, Hartford 52

Boulder, Colo. — Josh Scott scored a career-best 21 points, Askia Booker had 19, and Colorado (10-2) led handily from start to finish in beating Hartford.

Evan Cooper had 14 points to lead Hartford. No other player scored in double figures for the Hawks (7-6), who remained winless in five games against members of the Pac-12 Conference over the last 28 years. Two of those losses are against Colorado.

Maine 76, Quinnipiac 71

Hamden, Conn. — Justin Edwards scored 26 points and Alasdair Fraser had 14 points and 11 rebounds as Maine beat Quinnipiac (4-7).

Jon Mesghna added 13 points for Maine (5-8).

Columbia 69, Manhattan 58

New York — Steve Frankoski came off the bench to score 18 points, leading Columbia over Manhattan.

The sophomore guard scored all of his points from 3-point range, making 6 of 11 shots behind the arc for the Lions (6-5). He also had six 3-pointers in Columbia’s 70-69 loss to Elon on Dec. 22, when he scored 20 points.

UMass 64
Northern Illinois 59

Dekalb, Ill. — Maxie Esho scored 14 points as Massachusetts held off Northern Illinois for its fifth straight victory.

Chaz Williams added 12 points for the Minutemen (8-3), Freddie Riley had 11 and Terrell Vinson 10.
