Back To The Table : It took a few days to set up the next round of negotiations, but the NHL and the players’ association will return to the bargaining table Wednesday in an undisclosed location. These talks will include a pair of mediators, who are rejoining the process after an unsuccessful bid to help reach a settlement last month. The union has been more interested in having mediators present, while the league has been less enthusiastic about the idea. This is the first time the sides have gotten together since three days of talks last week in New York ended with negotiations falling apart.

What We Missed : A 10-game schedule was wiped out last night including a turnpike matchup in Philadelphia between the Flyers and the visiting New Jersey Devils. The Atlantic Division rivals finished one place apart last season.

, with Philadelphia grabbing third at 103 points, and New Jersey right behind at 102. The Devils got the best of the Flyers in the end, eliminating Philadelphia in five games in the second round of the playoffs en route to a Stanley Cup finals loss to Los Angeles.

ON THIS DAY LAST YEAR: The banged-up Carolina Hurricanes placed backup goalie Brian Boucher on the injured list and said that center Jeff Skinner was sidelined because of an undisclosed injury. Boucher sustained a lower-body injury during practice in Calgary.
