Hartford Legion Baseball Drops Pair to Lake Region

Rutland — Hartford (4-7) sustained a doubleheader sweep to Lake Region at St. Peter’s Field on Sunday, 5-4 and 8-4 losses that could end up determining the squad’s hopes for a bid in the Vermont Southern Division tournament in the coming weeks.

Hartford got a gutsy effort in the opener from starting pitcher Wyatt Connor, who threw the first five innings and held Lake Region to three runs on seven hits. The hosts were able to plate runs in the final two innings off reliever Jordy Allard, getting the winner with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

Allard and Nate Walz both had two hits for Hartford. Pat Roberts also helped out the visitors by going 1-for-2 at the plate.

Dylan Terino went all the way in the nightcap loss for Hartford, giving up nine hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Terino and Dylan Spencer both had 3-for-4 games at the plate.

Hartford coach Jarrod Grassi said it’s looking like a battle between Hartford, Lake Region and Bellows Falls for the final two tournament spots behind Rutland (10-1) and Brattleboro (9-2).

Hartford travels to second-place Brattleboro on Tuesday night.
