Apparently tired of waiting for the spring sports season to truly begin, Hartford High senior Loriston Fennell takes to shoveling slush from the school’s tennis courts in White River Junction on Wednesday afternoon. Fennell, a home-schooled senior, joined several members of the Hurricanes’ boys and girls tennis squads — junior D.J. Clifton among them — in clearing as much of winter’s detritus away, in hopes of making the sun’s task of melting the remainder much easier. The combination of Wednesday’s work and an amenable forecast will give the Hurricane boys a fighting chance of getting in Monday’s season-opener against Bellows Falls. The Hartford girls are also scheduled to open their year at home, against Otter Valley on Wednesday.Valley News — Tris Wykes
