Gauthier Hit Pushes Big Green

Lawrence, Kan. — Sophomore Adam Gauthier stroked a two-out single in the 10th inning to score junior Bo Patterson from second base, sending the visiting Dartmouth College baseball team to a 3-2 victory over No. 18 Kansas on Sunday at Hoglund Ballpark.

Tied at two entering the 10th, Jayhawk closer Jordan Piché quickly recorded the first two outs before Patterson walked on a full-count pitch to put the potential go-ahead run on first. Patterson then stole second, and Gauthier dumped a 1-2 pitch into right field for a base hit. The throw to the plate was not in time to keep Patterson from scoring.

In the bottom of the 10th, Dartmouth sophomore Duncan Robinson retired the first two hitters, like Piché, but pinch hitter Michael Tinsley doubled to put the tying run in scoring position. Robinson fell behind Aaron Hernandez by throwing two balls but, after a called strike, got the No. 9 hitter to fly out to sophomore Nick Ruppert in center field to end the game for the Big Green (3-9).

Robinson (3-1) was credited with the win, shutting out Kansas (16-8) over the final two frames on one hit and a walk with a strikeout as well. Freshman Mike Concato did the heavy lifting in his first collegiate start, giving up just two runs in eight innings on nine hits, two walks and two hit batters while striking out three.

Dartmouth’s next five scheduled games are also on the road, beginning with a trip to Siena for a game on Wednesday.

Los Angeles — The Big Green (10-13) wrapped up play at the Loyola Marymount Invitational with a pair of losses on Sunday.

Freshman Ashley Sissel provided Dartmouth’s only offense on the day, blasting a three-run homer against LMU to tie that game 3-3.

Cal Poly’s Sierra Hyland stymied the Big Green in the opener, throwing a two-hit shutout. Katie McEachern and Maddie Damore provided the hits for Dartmouth, which hosts UMass-Lowell on Tuesday.

Boston — Junior Michelle Upham scored six goals to help pace the Chargers (2-2) past Wentworth (3-2) at Sweeney Field.

Colby-Sawyer scored five of the game’s first six goals to take control, never giving up the lead. The Leopards twice closed to within two goals, at 6-4 in the first half and 12-10 in the second, but the Chargers’ closing five-goal run put the decision out of reach. Carly Baker struck for four goals and Caitlyn Whearty finished with three for Colby-Sawyer, and goalie Kellie Lander made 10 saves.

Colby-Sawyer hosts Keene State on Wednesday.
