First-Place Vermont Dismantles UMBC, 76-52

Burlington — Clancy Rugg scored 19 points and Ethan O’Day 12 points and 10 rebounds as America East leader Vermont defeated Maryland-Baltimore County 76-52 on Saturday.

The Catamounts (17-9, 11-1) also got 10 points from Sandro Carissimo. Vermont shot 49.2 percent, scoring 21 points off 21 turnovers by the Retrievers (9-17, 5-8). The Catamounts also scored 15 second-chance points with the help of 12 offensive rebounds. They held a 31-24 advantage on the boards.

No UMBC player scored in double figures with Rodney Elliott finishing with nine points. David Kadiri grabbed 11 rebounds. The Retrievers shot 32.7 percent and only hit 4 of 22 3-point attempts for 18.2 percent.

Hartford 61, UNH 59

West Hartford, Conn. — Mark Nwakamma scored a career-high 25 points as Hartford (13-14, 7-5 America East) pulled ahead in the second half to defeat New Hampshire (6-19, 4-8) after a close contest all the way through.

Patrick Konan came off the bench to lead New Hampshire with 15 points, and Chris Pelcher and Daniel Dion added 11 each.

UMass 67, GW 61

Washington, d.c. — Sampson Carter scored 20 points as Massachusetts defeated George Washington.

The Minutemen (20-5, 7-4 Atlantic 10) handed the Colonials (19-6, 7-4) their first home loss of the season.

Albany 74, Maine 63

Guilderland, n.y. — Peter Hooley scored 21 points, including a key 3-pointer, as Albany (13-13, 7-6 America East) held on for a win over Maine (5-20, 3-10).

Providence 84, DePaul 61

Providence, r.i. — Bryce Cotton continued his superb senior season, netting a game-high 22 points and handing out six assists as Providence (17-9, 7-6 Big East) ran past DePaul.

Duquesne 83, Rhode Island 71

Kingston, r.i. — Ovie Soko scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while L.G. Gill added 19 points as Duquesne (11-13, 3-8 Atlantic 10) took down Rhode Island (11-15, 2-9).

Stony Brook 78, Mass.-Lowell 68

Lowell, Mass. — Jameel Warney scored a career-high 19 points and Dave Coley added 13 points and 11 rebounds to help Stony Brook (18-8, 10-2 America East) defeat Massachusetts-Lowell (8-17, 6-7).
