Lebanon Senior Wins Skimeister

Based on his strong performance at this week’s NHIAA Division II state meet, Lebanon High senior Kenny Weitzman on the NHIAA Boys Division II Skimeister Award for the second straight year, his coach, Les Lawrence, said Thursday.

The honor is given to the athlete with the best combined scores of both alpine (giant slalom and slalom) and both Nordic events (classical and skate).

On the alpine events on Tuesday at Waterville Valley, N.H., Weitzman was 14th in the slalom (combined time of 1 minute, 9.9 seconds) and 29th in the giant slalom (1:06.24).

In the Nordic events on Wednesday at Pinkham Notch, Weitzman was second in the freestyle (10:29, just a second behind Hanover’s Tucker Cadow) and fifth in the classical skate (12:15).

Weitzman is the third Raiders in four years to win Skimeister. Micah Berman captured the honor in 2011.
