Letter: Forum on Breast Cancer
To the Editor:
In honor of breast cancer awareness month, members of Norris Cotton Cancer Center will reach out to local as well as distant communities in need of improved breast cancer awareness, screening and treatment. The Norris Cotton Cancer Center will host a program on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., in DHMC’s Auditorium E-F, that will feature talks by various providers and scientists from our comprehensive breast cancer program. The program will include a tour of our breast-imaging facilities, including a demonstration of our newest technology for breast cancer screening, tomosynthesis. The audience will be educated about breast cancer treatments and the various resources available to women at the time of diagnosis and throughout their treatment and beyond. Finally, the evening will highlight cutting-edge treatments, including breast reconstruction and heart-sparing radiation techniques.
Many women, men and children in our community and around the world have been touched by breast cancer. With early detection and improved targeted treatments, the prognosis for breast cancer and subsequent quality of life after treatment has improved dramatically over the last two decades. We are hopeful that with ongoing education and early detection, both physical and emotional outcomes will continue to improve. At the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, we are grateful that we are able to participate in programs to help advance our community in these goals.
