Letter: Obama Should Admit His Mistake

To the Editor:

I enthusiastically voted for Barack Obama in the last two elections. I ask him now to take a courageous stand and stand down on his red-line statement concerning Syria. He should tell the nation that, in hindsight, it was wrong; there are other ways of seeking justice without endangering the lives of more innocent Syrians for this token gesture.

Atrocities have been carried out by both sides of this civil war, and to date over 100,000 people have died. Although using chemical weapons cannot be sanctioned, Obama’s proposed response is unfortunate; in this situation, more violence will only beget more violence. We need to seek a diplomatic end to this war. Those responsible for using the chemical weapons need to be brought before the International Criminal Court and tried for crimes against humanity on an international stage. It is not our right to carry this out unilaterally.

I think if Obama only would listen to his inner self, he would agree. I am contacting my legislators to ask that they vote not to approve his request for a limited military strike. I urge others to contact their representatives to register their concern.
