Letter: Bringing Karzai Into the Flock

To the Editor:

Two seemingly unrelated pieces in the July 24 Valley News suggest a new approach to our futile involvement in Afghanistan. Afghan President Hamid Karzai “has publicly acknowledged accepting bags of money from the agency (CIA) for years.” At the same time, Pope Francis has gone to Brazil in an attempt to “recapture the dynamism that other denominations have been using to snap up souls.” Perhaps President Obama should ask Pope Francis to go Afghanistan where he will certainly be more successful than the Central Intelligence Agency.
