Letter: Wow — They Actually Fixed 12A!
To the Editor:
If someone had told me several years ago that I would be authoring a letter praising the Route 12A makeover in West Lebanon, I would have told them in all sincerity that a statement like that would have been equivalent to believing that Antonin Scalia has a sense of humor or a sense of compassion — pretty far out stuff! But here I am, on bended knee, in praise of the Audley girls and boys. Every time we venture east from the People’s Republic of Vermont to visit Price Chopper, we are pleasantly and consistently amazed at the ease with which we are able to move about the former Chinese-torture puzzle that was “The Strip.” It doesn’t even matter in which direction you’re headed; it still seems that someone with foresight and applicable knowledge of traffic patterns has pretty much solved the bottleneck problems. (It would have been better to install a huge roundabout as the French have done all over their country, but for now, this seems to work).
I put off writing this letter until I had tried every possible in and out of West Lebanon. The timing of the lights, two lanes going to Vermont, seven lanes under the Interstate — wow! An especially brilliant move was the underpass between the two plazas. Thank you to planning commissions, the City Council, permit boards, engineers, designers, etc. for a sensible, functional and, in its own funky concrete way, beautiful end product to your efforts. I’m sure that these efforts are appreciated by all who swing into “The Strip.”
