Letter: A Woman’s Most Difficult Job
To the Editor:
Mother’s Day is a highly celebrated holiday, and rightfully so. Here at Good Beginnings of the Upper Valley, we know all too well that being a mother is very likely the most difficult job any woman will ever have in her lifetime.
Good Beginnings of the Upper Valley has been supporting mothers with new babies and their families for over 27 years. At the core of our program are 90 volunteers, most of whom are mothers themselves. Our Volunteer Home Visitor Program offers free, in-home support by trained volunteers once a week for two to three hours. Volunteers perform a variety of duties — offering practical assistance, encouragement and advice — to relieve the stress and exhaustion that families experience after birth. This relationship lasts for three to four months during the baby’s early months to ensure that each family gets off to a good beginning.
Any mother with a new baby and her family could use some form of support at this critical time in life. To learn more about our free home-visitor program, please visit us at www.goodbeginnings.net/uppervalley or call 603-298-9524.
On behalf of the board of directors and staff at Good Beginnings of the Upper Valley, Happy Mother’s Day!
