To the Editor:

I am responding to the April 19 letter regarding Lebanon’s Top Dog Contest discriminating against cats. I am not a fan of contests, but I am an animal lover, and over the years I have rescued quite a few, including dogs. Right now, I have a ferret that was going to be euthanized because she’s a biter. I am far from wealthy but have always managed to have mine neutered and spayed.

Cats are very intelligent and very affectionate, if given a chance.
