Letter: History of a Bradford Family

To the Editor:

The Bradford Historical Society recently purchased two 1852 portraits by HK Goodwin. They are of Benjamin and Mary (Horman) Kelley, who came to Bradford in 1804 and lived on what is now Kidder Road. Their descendants continued to live in the house until 2001. On Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m., the portraits will be unveiled during a program about the Kelleys, their descendants and the interesting life of the artist. The program is open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

The society is seeking the descendants of the Kelley family and encouraging them to attend. In addition to the family name Kelley, that would include others by the name of Kidder, Carbee, Osborne, Shumway, Moore, McLane, Stockwell, Wing and perhaps others. Some of these names are connected to the Kelleys as the result of female descendants marrying men of those families in Bradford and surrounding communities. Questions about possible connections may be addressed to me at lccoffin@charter.net.
