Letter: The Customer Is Always Right

To the Editor:

It really is no big deal if the regime in Iran gets nuclear weapons, because all that’s needed to stop a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke.

Wayne LaPierre of the National Rifle Association insists that our guns are all that stand between us and tyranny, by which he presumably means a military dictatorship run by Barack Hussein Obama. But the main instrument of such a military dictatorship would be, well, the military. But LaPierre is a huge fan of the U.S. armed forces. How can he reconcile these two positions?

Ah yes, customers!

The NRA is, above all, a lobbyist organization for the weapons-manufacturers. Its main customers are gun-owners/buyers, both civilian and professional (i.e. military and law enforcement). But the sales pitch they use on civilians stands in direct contradiction to their eagerness to sell to the military and law enforcement. But they don’t care, because it is the sale, not the ideology, that determines their actions.
