Letter: Two School Board Vacancies in Hanover
To the Editor:
In March, I will complete my eighth year on the Hanover and Dresden school boards. These eight years have been both challenging and rewarding, and I am proud of the progress our boards have achieved over that time. I have found many friendships, both among our board members and among our administrators and school staffs. I am truly grateful for having had the opportunity to serve.
Now it is time to step down, and I will not be a candidate for another term. So there will be an open seat for new candidates to fill. Indeed, there will be two open seats, due to the forthcoming resignation of another board member. I strongly encourage Hanover residents to consider coming forth as a candidate. Our Hanover and Dresden boards are active participants in shaping and enhancing the education of our young, and there is no civic engagement more important.
One of the open seats has a full term of three years. The other seat will have one year left to complete the term of the resigning member. Board elections will take place at district meeting on March 5. That’s two months away, but the filing period is almost upon us: Candidate filing opens on Wednesday Jan. 16, and closes on Friday, Jan. 25. To file your candidacy, just stop by the SAU office (white pillars next to the high school on Lebanon Street). If you have questions, please talk with any board member (listed online at SAU70.org) or call Superintendent Frank Bass (643-6050).
Thank you for your support of the board’s work, and please consider seriously this emergent opportunity.
Chair, Hanover School Board
