Letter: Misguided School Officials
To the Editor:
I read your April 15 editorial, “Not So Great Expectations,” with much pleasure. You have done the public and particularly the residents of Lebanon a good public service in exposing the petty, small-minded behavior of the Lebanon school superintendent and the Lebanon School Board. I found especially outrageous the self-congratulatory, pat-on-the-back talk about having made a “tough call.” The policies they relied on were of recent vintage (2011) and hardily embedded in stone, and permitting young Lucian Vigneault to remain in school for the remainder of the year would have had no negative financial impact. Thankfully, a generous benefactor rescued Lucian from the consequences of the decision of Lebanon’s weak, misguided school officials.
