Letter: Take On Men’s Behavior

To the Editor:

Instead of spending a lot of column inches talking about dorm locks and whether they would have prevented sexual assault at Dartmouth, Jim Kenyon (“Open Door Policy,” March 30) could have focused on behavior instead. Door locks and street lighting and walking in pairs and having your keys ready and never leaving your drink unattended and taking self-defense classes and saying no and all the rest aren’t going to solve the problem.

We’ll be safe when men don’t think it’s OK to rape in the first place, no matter how drunk or sober they are. I’m waiting for Jim to tackle this side of the issue. Can you take on men’s behavior with the strength that you confront institutions?
