Letter: Awareness of Climate Change

To the Editor:

Jeff Lehmann (“Other Things to Worry About,” Forum, Feb. 26) is sadly misguided. He questions why the U.S. secretary of state is thinking about climate change when there are crises to be dealt with in Syria, Egypt and many other places. These troubles deserve attention, but their significance pales beside the profound effect that human-driven climate change is having on world history. One of the most shameful failings of the current administration (and there is plenty of competition) is its inability to make even the most timid effort to deal with this oncoming catastrophe. A few words from Secretary Kerry don’t mean that a change of course is imminent, but I am grateful for any sign of awareness.
