Margaret A. Barter

Thetford, Vt. — Margaret A. Barter, 89, of Dewitt Drive in White River Jct., Vt., and a long time resident of Thetford, Vt., died Saturday, December 7, 2013, at her home.

She was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of Adrian and Ida (Blanton) Anderson. She attended Louisville schools and was a 1943 graduate of Shawnee High School.

After graduation, Mrs. Barter was employed by several Louisville area banks. On June 22, 1946, she married Alexander Barter, and the couple lived for a short while in Louisville until moving to Maine. In 1962 she moved to Stoneham, Mass., and was employed at Transitron Electronics in Wakefield, Mass., and Stoneham Laundry in Stoneham, Mass. In 1971 she and her husband moved to Thetford and she was employed in the housekeeping department at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, N.H. Mrs. Barter retired in 1987.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Farrar, of Ballard, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Thomas and Kenneth Meuse, Susan Richards and Cheryl Gardner; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Richard V. Anderson, of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Barter; and two sisters, Mildred Steinhauer and Juanita Smith.

Funeral services will be held in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in North Thetford, Vt., in the spring There are no calling hours.
