James R. Clifford
Canaan, N.H. — James R. Clifford, 75, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend died of natural causes while on a hunting trip in Maine, on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013.
Jim was born in Hanover, N.H. to Charles L. Clifford and Frieda (Leach) Clifford on July 13, 1938. He attended Canaan Schools and graduated from Canaan High School in 1956. He served in the Army and received an honorable discharge on Aug. 31, 1962. He was married to his former wife of 38 years, Carol Anne Corette (Hall). He was a dedicated worker in the Baltic Woolen Mill, E. Cummings Leather Company and completed 41 years working for the phone company.
Jim was a faithful man who loved the Lord and always enjoyed his Thursday night bible study.
Family always came first for Jim. His other passion was working the farms where he grew vegetables and flowers, cared for animals, processed hay, and made maple syrup and apple cider. His love for the outdoors was evident in his skillful hunting and fishing. Every spring he joined family and friends in the Maine woods in search of Moose sheds
He was a generous and talented man who gladly shared his skills and bounty with others. He enjoyed quietly helping others through donations; like providing all the winter squash for the annual 4-H chicken pie supper and visiting family and friends with an arm full of vegetables. Everyone enjoyed his annual corn roasts where friends and family gathered. He was also a 4-H leader teaching natural resources to children in the community.
He was predeceased by his eldest son, Mark Alan Clifford; his grandchildren, Mackenzie Leila Fox and Treven Alan Fox.
Jim is survived by a son, Timothy A. Clifford of Lebanon and a daughter, Laurie L. Fox of Enfield. He is survived by his aunt, Verna Dunn of Enfield; his brother, Bob Clifford and wife, Donette of Rutland, Mass.; his sister, Louise Clifford of Canaan, sister, Gail Lemere and husband, Roger of Oviedo, Fla.; brother, Donald Clifford and wife, Cindy of Newport; brother, David Clifford and wife, JoAnne of Cornish; sister, Nancy LaCourse and husband Bob of Lincoln; and brother, Thomas Clifford and wife Doreé of Lebanon.
