Ralph E. Silva
Claremont, N.H. — Ralph E. Silva, 82, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at the Lakes Region Hospital in Laconia, N.H. He was born in Gloucester, Mass. on March 27, 1931, the son of Tony and Bessie Silva.
He graduated from Gloucester High School, in Gloucester. He was drafted in 1949 by the Air Force where he served for four years. When he returned home he went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
He later moved to Charlestown, where his coaching career began and would last 49 years. He loved and coached many sports, but his passion was baseball. He would go on to coach former Red Sox catcher Carlton “Pudge” Fisk. Watching Pudge be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, was one of the proudest moments of his coaching career.
He loved sitting around his pool spending time with his family and friends, and spending the winter months with his wife in Florida. He was admired and loved by all who knew him.
The surviving family includes his wife, June; and her three children, Christopher Knapp and his two children, Madison and Mackenzie, of Westwood, N.J.; Eric Knapp and his two children, Sarah and Ian of Point Pleasant, N.J.; James Skinner of Lee, N.H.; his three children, Kenne Silva and his wife, Donna of Claremont, N.H.; Paul Silva and his son, David from Claremont; his two grandson, Alan and Scott Silva of Marietta, Ga. from his late son, Tony Silva; his daughter, Cynthia Silva of Jaffrey, N.H. and her daughter, Ashley Gould, Peterborough, N.H.; Jeffrey & Michelle Jackson and their children, Alex, Jeff Jr., and Juliana of Toms River, N.J.; Jeffrey & Kristi Brown and their children, Scott and Jackie of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Elisa Davenport, of Clearwater, Fla..; and Keith Thibodeau of Steamboat Springs. He also leaves behind three brothers, John Silva and his wife, Rose from Brunswick, Ga. and their children; Richard Silva and his wife, Muriel, from Tampa, Fla., and their children; and Lawrence Silva and Raymonde from France and his children. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins.
Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Stringer Funeral Home in Claremont, N.H. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery in Charlestown. A reception will follow at the Moose Club on Broad Street in Claremont.
