Emily deForest Guertin

Ascutney, Vt. — Emily deForest Guertin, 92, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at the home of her daughter. She was born in Winsted, Conn., and graduated from Milton High School in Milton, Mass. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served our country during World War II in the W.A.V.E.S. as a Pharmacist Mate Third Class. She worked as a Supervisor at John Hancock Insurance Company in Boston, Mass. She married Frank B. Guertin July 9, 1949 and they made their home in Stoughton, Mass., where they raised their two children.

Emily volunteered as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She was a member of the Stoughton Historical Society, the Easton Garden Club, the Audubon Society of Mass., and Weathersfield Historical Society in Vermont.

She was predeceased by her husband, who died Aug. 25, 2003. She is survived by her son; William D. Guertin of Stoughton; her daughter deForest Bearse of Ascutney; five grandchildren and a great grandson.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. in the Ascutneyville Cemetery in Ascutney.
