Rowland E. Hill, Sr.
Canaan, N.H. — Rowland E. Hill, Sr., 91, husband of Lydia (Hamilton) Hill, died peacefully at home on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 with family at his side.
He was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Cambridge, Mass. to William and Olive (Spear) Hill. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara (Hill) Fulton. He is survived by his wife, Lydia, his brother, William Hill, Jr. and his seven children and their spouses: Rowland and Wendy Hill, Robin (Hill) and Stephen MacLeod, Cedric and Alberta Hill, Brian and Stephanie Hill, Audrey (Hill) and Frank Vitale, Georgia (Hill) and Gregory Wostrel, and Jeffrey and Lisa Hill. He is also survived by 15 cherished grandchildren, his brother in law, John Fulton and sister in law, Meradith Hill.
A graduate of MIT in 1943, he had a lifelong career as a mechanical engineer and derived endless pleasure from a personal hobby of designing and building wooden boats. He was also an avid hiker through the Adirondack and White Mountains.
He will be best remembered for his love of God, his compassion for his fellow man, his ever curious mind and his great love of the outdoors. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 3013, at the First Baptist Church in Lebanon, N.H.
