Edward K. Winter

Weathersfield, Vt. — Edward K. Winter, 52, a resident of Weathersfield, passed away Wednesday morning, July 10, 2013 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.

He was born August 26, 1960 in Rochester, N.Y. the son of Chet and Judith (Steves) Winter. He received his schooling in Connecticut and Maine. He moved to the Windsor area in 1990. He married Mary Matthews in Brownsville, Vt. on May 29, 1993. Ed was employed as a carpenter and glazier for Portland Glass in West Lebanon and Claremont, N.H. and most recently for American Plate Glass in Claremont.

He was a member and a deacon of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Windsor.

Ed was a man who loved life, from playing baseball, softball or hockey, to helping others, to doing activities with his kids. His strong faith has been a testimony to his family and friends, co-workers and strangers. He did this mostly by his actions and with some words. He was willing to do the “little extras” for people. He brought humor into everything that needed it, from the doctor’s offices to conversations around the kitchen table.

He fought against brain tumors for many years, much to the amazement of doctors. Even the doctors thought Ed as a “unique” individual. He will be loved and missed by hundreds.

He was predeceased by his father, Chet Winter and his step father, “Gil” Gothreau.

Survivors include his wife; Mary M. Winter; two sons, Josiah Winter and Jonathan Winter; one daughter, Grace Winter; all of Weathersfield; his mother, Judith Gothreau of Hartford, Conn.; one brother, Dale Winter of West Windsor, Vt.; four sisters, Gael Chase of Higganum, Conn., Anne Saucier of Willington, Conn., Mary Jean Gothreau of Cheshire, Conn. and “Libby” Chowaniec of Windsor, Conn., eight nieces, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, July 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Windsor. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church. The Rev. Dave Jones, Pastor, will officiate. Committal services will follow in the Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Brownsville Community Church in West Windsor.
