Frederick (Rick) Reed

Ascutney, Vt. — Rick took his final journey on the wings of the eagle to heaven in the early hours of Wednesday, May 14, 2013, at the White River Junction, Vt. Veterans Hospital. He was born in Claremont, N.H. Aug. 22, 1947.

He was predeceased by his mother, Gloria Reed in 2004, and mother in-law, Helen Futch in 2011. Survivors are his wife, Deborah Reed and his beloved cat, Precious Lynn, both of Ascutney; his son, Joshua; two grandchildren, Gracie and Josh, of Windsor, Vt.; his sisters, Nancy Camber and her husband, Tom, of Enfield, N.H., Joan Gates and her husband, Tim, of White River Junction, Vt.; two brothers, Charles Reed and Robert Reed, both of Ascutney; his father, Gerald Reed of Ascutney; one uncle, Donald Syriac, of Claremont; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Rick graduated from Hartford High School in 1966. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox and New England Patriots. He loved golfing, hunting, fishing and anything to do with the outdoors.

He proudly joined the Marine Corps in 1966, rapidly becoming a Sgt. He served in Vietnam from 1967-1968, then was discharged in 1971.

He will always be remembered for his sincere generosity, kindness, wonderful sense of humor and infectious smile.

He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post in White River Junction, a member of the American Legion in White River Junction and the Elks of Claremont.

Rick and Deborah met in Vero Beach, Fla. and it was love at first sight. They later moved to Vermont and were married for 22 years.

Rick retired from the VA Hospital in 2000.

I want to express my gratitude to the following: Rita Voelker, Lynda Gordon, Elmer Lamaca, Mary Packard, last but not least, my brother in law, my rock, Charles Reed.

Celebration of Life will be July 13, 2013, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Charles Reeds’, 6116 Route 5, Ascutney, Vt., across from the Windsor Motel.
