Charles W. “Charlie” Rogers
White River Jct., Vt. — Charles W. “Charlie” Rogers, 64, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born July 29, 1948, in Randolph, Vt., the son of Richard W. and Marion (Lyford) Rogers. He attended school in Tunbridge and later went to the St. Johnsbury Trade School in St. Johnsbury, Vt. for two years. On May 11, 1974, he married Suzanne Chamberlin of Woodstock, Vt. They lived most of their married life in White River Jct. where they raised their two children. Charlie worked for 35 years as a custodian and bus driver for the Hartford School District. He spent 26 of those years at the Hartford High School & Technical Center and the last nine years he worked at the Ottauquechee School in Quechee, Vt. He retired this past November due to ill health.
He was a member of the Hartford Elks Lodge #1541 in Hartford, Vt. For many years he was a Boy Scout Leader with Troop #232 in White River Jct. and also a volunteer for his wife’s Girl Scout Troop. He enjoyed driving the bus for the Hartford School sports trips and the train at the Quechee Gorge Village. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing, computer games, watching television and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He liked to pick apples, strawberries and fiddleheads. Charlie also liked to participate in the yearly, friendly competition with his neighbors to see who could grow the best tulips and gladiolas.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Rogers, of White River Jct.; his father, Richard Rogers, of South Royalton, Vt.; his mother, Marion Simonds and step-father, Edward Simonds, of Pomfret, Vt.; a son, Frank Rogers and his wife, Crystal, of West Hartford, Vt.; a daughter, Tara Weatherell and her husband, Tim, of Chelsea, Vt.; three grandchildren, Jasmyn, Miranda and Tanner; three sisters, Mary Demar, of Michigan, Sharon French, of Ninety Six, S.C. and Bonnie Perkins of Hartford, Vt.; two half-brothers, Willard “Wink” Simonds of Wilder, Vt. and George Simonds of Pomfret, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his step-mother, June Avery Rogers and a sister, Sandra Lisi.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home, 300 VT RT 110, Chelsea, Vt. A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Spring Road Cemetery in Tunbridge, Vt. with Pastor Hannah K. Rogers officiating.
