Carroll Linka Mentzendorff Oelsner
Hanover, N.H. — Carroll Linka Mentzendorff Oelsner, 92, passed away at her home in Hanover on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. She was born March 22, 1921, in Louisville, Ky. to Marguerite Rennie Burford and Carl William Mentzendorff. As an infant she and her family moved to Montclair, N.J. where she met her future husband John (Jack) William Oelsner at age 3! Carroll was the youngest of four sisters, all deceased. On Dec. 27, 1941, she married her longtime friend, Jack Oelsner, and followed him to his US Army Air Corps training camp before returning to graduate from Smith College in 1942. Over the years Carroll and Jack lived in Montclair, N.J.; Syosset & Locust Valley, N.Y.; Westport, Conn.; South Strafford, Vt. and Hanover.
Carroll is survived by her husband, Jack; daughter, Carroll Linka Lewis (Chip), of South Strafford; daughter, Jeanne Burford Castro (Mark), of South Strafford, and son, William Kennedy Oelsner (Nadine), of Charleston, S.C. She was predeceased by son, John W. Oelsner, Jr. in 1968. She enjoyed her large family - including her four children; nine grandchildren, Heidi, Burke & Chadd Lewis, Nicholas, Sean & Kira Castro, and William, Jr., Christina and Henry Oelsner; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She also enjoyed her many friends, playing tennis, beagling, reading, gardening, traveling and volunteering in whatever community she lived in at the time! She and Jack travelled extensively after he retired.
