Eleanor May Reney
Grantham, N.H. — Eleanor May Reney, 87, passed away at the New London Hospital, surrounded by her family, Sunday evening, Aug. 24 2014.
Eleanor was born in Newport, N.H. Aug. 7, 1927, daughter to the late Leon H. and Florence E. (Persons) Linton. She was raised and educated in Croydon and graduated from Towle High School in the Class of 1943. On Sept. 1, 1945 she married her beloved Maurice D. Reney and have shared 69 years together. They owned and operated the Reney General Store for over 32 years before retiring in 1985. Eleanor loved antiquing and this started an antique business. She and Hap enjoyed all their time together working with each other at the store, and then driving the roads trying to find that hidden jewel along trips to Maine and throughout New England. She also enjoyed fishing and hunting, was the tax collector for Grantham for 18 years and a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Newport.
She is survived by her husband, Maurice “Hap” Reney of Grantham; her daughter, Joyce “Jody” Bewersdorf and her husband, Ernst M. Sr. “Mike” of Hopkinton, N.H.; two grandchildren, Ernst M. Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, Amy Bewersdorf; and one great-grandchild, Joseph Bewersdorf; two sisters, Joyce Jordan of Newport, Shirley Kowalczyk and her husband, John, of Croydon; her sister-in-law, Jane Linton; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Clarence “Buddy” Linton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at St. Patrick’s Church, 32 Beech Street in Newport, with Fr. Michael Monette as celebrant. Eleanor will be cremated and burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Eleanor to either the Grantham or Croydon Historical Society or a charity of your choice.
