Allen Wayne Wirta

Sunapee, NH — Allen Wayne Wirta passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at the home he built with his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Miller Wirta.

Allen was born on Sept. 4, 1934 in Newport, N.H. to Ero Wirta and Aune (Annala) Wirta Goings. After he graduated from Towle High School in 1952, he married the love of his life. When he went to serve the United States Army in Germany, Evelyn went overseas to be with him, and they traveled extensively throughout Europe. Allen was honorably discharged as a Spec. 4 on May 4, 1959. Upon returning home, Allen managed two Beneficial Finance offices; he later worked for Sturm, Ruger & Co., then started a career with the US Postal Service, from which he retired in 1999. After retirement, Allen and Evelyn traveled regularly to Seattle, Wash. and Scottsdale, Ariz.

Allen loved horse-racing, sports, and old westerns. He told stories of his trapping days with his dad; brother, Bob; and brother-in-law, Dick. Allen adored his grandchildren and his little Bichon, Abby.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; their sons, Bret of Seattle, and Mark of Sunapee; daughters-in-law, Trisha and Ellen; grandkids, Erin & Nate of Sunapee, Becca and Garrett of Seattle; and brothers, Robert Wirta of Contoocook and Bruce Goings of Enfield; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Ero (Ike) and step-mother Irene Wirta, mother Aune Goings and step-father Elmer Goings, and sister Mary Goings MacNab.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street in Newport. Burial will be private at the Eastman Cemetery in Sunapee at a later time with military honors.

Friends may call on the family Tuesday evening, Aug. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
