Edward R. Provost

Claremont, N.H. — Edward R. Provost, 88, of Memorial Drive died on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Valley Regional Hospital. He was born in 1925 in Manchester, N.H. the son of Robert and Evelyn (Gallant) Provost.

He was a graduate of Stevens High School in 1943. He spent two years in the US Army Air Corp. as a pilot from 1943 to 1945.

Edward worked at J&L for 10 years and then Joy Machine Co. for 35 years in supervisory positions.

He was very active in his community. He was on the Goodwin Community Center Commission for 20+ years, he volunteered at Arrowhead Ski Area on ski patrol, instructing and in the kitchen.

He started playing basketball at 42 years old and continued until he was 78. He loved to play. He had his own flag football team. He along with Jim Baird collected money and labor to build the two basketball courts at Barnes Park at no cost to the city.

Ed enjoyed life, he was a positive person. He was loved dearly by his family and friends and will be missed greatly.

He was married to Laura Baker for 57 years and she died on April 7, 2008.

The family includes two children, Steven Provost and Donna Provost; six grandchildren, Caitlin Fennessy, Garth Lawrence, Justin Provost, Jenna Provost, Jill Hartwell and Lyndsey Lurvey; great-grandchildren, Brianne, Mariah and Kirsten Lawrence, Oliver and Harper Stone, Braden Mohr, Matthew Hartwell, Isabella Bard and yet to be born, Delilah Provost.

Friends and family may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a time to share special memories of Edward with family and friends at 7 p.m. The Elks will do a service at 6:45 p.m. A reception will follow at the Elk’s Club.
