Naomi R. Lucas
White River Jct., Vt. — Naomi R. Lucas, 66, died Tuesday afternoon, July 22, 2014, at her home in White River Jct., Vt. after a long battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 31, 1947, in Flushing, N.Y. the daughter of William and Helen (Miles) Carlson. Naomi attended schools in New York and graduated from East Meadow High School in East Meadow, N.Y. She moved to Vermont in 1977. She worked as a bartender first at the Fox and Hound Restaurant in White River Jct. and then later at Cactus Jack’s. She was soon promoted and became the manager. Later she became a part owner of the popular night club. She was married to Dale D. Lucas July 26, 1983. In 1991 she and Dale bought out her partner and became the owners of the Upper Valley Lanes and Games and Cactus Jack’s.
In Hartford, Naomi was a very active community member. She sat on the board of the Good Neighbor Clinic in White River Jct. Naomi loved to read, work on crossword puzzles and travel to New York to visit with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by a son, Obadiah M. Stevens who died May 31, 2012.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Lucas of White River Jct., Vt.; stepdaughter, Jamie Lucas of Manchester, Mass.; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Robert Carlson of Long Island, N.Y.; a sister, Jean Ebbert of Long Island, N.Y.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday afternoon, July 30, at 2PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Good Neighbor Clinic, 70 North Main Street, White River Jct., Vt. 05001.
