Adrienne L. Auger
Lenox, Mass. — Adrienne L. Auger, 89, formerly of Lenox, Mass., died Monday morning July 7, 2014 at Geer Skilled Nursing Facility in Canaan, Conn.
Born in San Francisco, Calif. July 25, 1924, to Miriam Hockwald and Israel Levitt, Adrienne developed at a young age a deep and life-long love of classical music. She and her twin sister, Helen, were accomplished pianists.
Marrying Naval officer Thomas E. Auger in January 1949, Adrienne spent the next 64 years raising her four children, volunteering for a variety of charitable organizations, including but not limited to Recording for the Blind, traveling internationally for museum visits, and spending time with her grandchildren. She taught piano at the Berkshire Music School, sang soprano in the Berkshire Concert Choir and church choirs, played both the cello and recorder, and savored her summers ushering at Tanglewood.
At one time an active jogger, golfer, bowler, tennis player, hiker, and cross country skier, in her later years Adrienne as well so enjoyed daily walks with her husband and dog at Lenox’s Kennedy Trails. Her colorful summer perennial patch was lovely along with the annual plantings of nasturtium and zinnia. Birthday treks for low bush blueberry picking at Mt. Greylock garnered a great amount to last through the late fall. Lastly, her appreciation of birds – watching & feeding – constituted a part of her winter months.
Adrienne is survived by her four children , Benjamin C. Auger, Jeffrey T. Auger, Amy A. Nickerson, and Matthew E. Auger , her 10 grandchildren , her sister Helen Fairchild of Santa Cruz, Calif,. Her husband Thomas Auger predeceased her on Feb. 26, 2013. She will be greatly missed.
