Charlestown, N.H. — Ronald Decato, 62, of Charlestown passed quietly away at his home on Saturday, June 14, 2014, after a long, arduous battle with cancer.
Born in Hanover, N.H., he was the son of Raymond and Edna (Young) Decato. He grew up locally, graduated from Hanover High School, attended UNH and joined the U.S. Air Force. He was married in Chestertown, Md. to Rebecca Smith. Although they traveled throughout the U.S., they ultimately made their home in the Upper Valley area where they raised their two children. Ron worked in his family’s business for many years and later, for himself as a private contractor.
For those who knew Ron, no words are needed. For those who did not know him, words alone, cannot accurately describe him.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Rhonda Sanborn. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rebecca Decato of Charlestown; his daughter, Heather Hatton and her husband, Will of Charlestown; his son, Kim Decato and his wife, Laura of Auburn Maine; his brother, Rodney Decato and his wife, Barbara of Tunbridge, Vt.; three grandchildren, Jasmine, Courtnie and Brayden; nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank everyone who cared for Ron during his illness, all the doctors and nurses at the V.A. Hospital in W.R.Jct., Vt., and the Oncology Dept. at DHMC as well as the Hospice at HCS in Keene, N.H. Thanks to all of you, Ron got the best care that he could possibly have had.
There will be no calling hours. A Christian funeral and burial will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014, at 9 a.m. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Randolph Center, Vt. with Pastor Dave Grasso officiating. The burial will follow the service.
