Janice S. Johnson

Windsor, Vt. — Janice S. Johnson, 67, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Tuesday morning, May 27, 2014, at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor following a brief illness.

She was born May 18, 1947, in Medford, Mass. the daughter of Frederick B. and Beulah R. (Odams) Sprague. She received her schooling in Medford and graduated from Medford High School in 1965. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Gordon College and her Master’s Degree from Boston College. She married Thomas C. Johnson in Windsor on Feb. 15, 1975. She was employed with the Association for the Blind for the State of Vermont for several years, until teaching at Springfield High School in Springfield, Vt. She was currently employed by the Windsor School District as a Para Educator at State Street School in Windsor.

She was a member of the Christ Community Church in Plainfield, N.H. She was active with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Windsor. She also served on the board for Volunteers in Action at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor. She was fond of knitting and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed making and selling Cat Nip toys.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas C. Johnson of Windsor; two sons, James A. Johnson of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Mark T. Johnson of Windsor; one daughter, Rebecca J. Johnson of White River Jct., Vt.; one grandson, Ethan Johnson of Fairbanks; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, May 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 30 at 10 a.m. at the Christ Community Church in Plainfield. The Rev. Brian Sayers, Pastor will officiate. A reception for family and friends will follow at the church. Committal services will follow at 1 p.m. in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
