Joan Carol Metzger

North Haverhill, N.H. — Joan Carol Metzger, 60, of North Haverhill, and Newbury, N.H., died at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, after a brief illness. She died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in Hicksville, N.Y. on Dec. 19, 1953, daughter of the late Harry and Lora Mae (MacComiskey) Metzger. She attended schools in Hicksville, N.Y., Acton, Mass., earned an A.A. degree from Bennett College, N.Y. and a B.A. from University of New Hampshire. She studied Radiology at the New Hampshire Technical School in Concord, N.H., and was employed for 15 years as an evening Radiology supervisor at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

She led an active life in spite of her Multiple Sclerosis and had many interests. She had a passion for horses and eventing; was an avid gardener and member of the Haverhill Garden Club; volunteered for the Montshire Museum in Norwich, Vt., and Haverhill Library; was a dog lover and fostered many dogs through Australian Shepherd Rescue; enjoyed card and board games and was a regular player at the Grafton County Senior Center; and enjoyed kayaking with her friends.

She is survived by her sister, Jill Hacking; her brother, John Metzger; and her niece, Ruth Ann Hacking, all of Newbury, N.H.; and many close friends.

There will be a private service later in the spring.
