Robert L. (Bob) Nelson

Croydon, N.H. — Robert L. (Bob) Nelson, age 91, of Croydon passed away on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Apple Rehab in Avon, Conn. Bob was born on May 7, 1922, the son of Swedish immigrants, Axel L. and Alma S. Nelson.

Bob is predeceased by his wife, Edna L. Nelson; his brother, William F. Nelson; and sister, Dorothy N. Thorne. Bob is survived by his sons, David B. Nelson, of Derry, N.H., Paul R. Nelson, and his wife, Kimberly B. Nelson of Simsbury, Conn.; and his grandchildren, Jeffrey P. Nelson, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lindsay A. Nelson, of Simsbury, Conn.

Bob grew up in Hartford, Conn., graduated Buckley High School and served in the U.S. Navy in WWII as an Ensign in the Supply Corp stationed in Manila, Philippines. He graduated Miami (Ohio) University and Harvard Business School. He moved to Simsbury in the early 1950’s. He worked as a banker for many years for Connecticut Bank & Trust (“CBT”). He held a variety of positions at CBT retiring as Vice President in 1978. Bob was active in his church, First Church of Christ and in civic organizations, including the Simsbury Zoning Commission.

Bob and Edna retired to Croydon where they enjoyed many years at their family-restored 1777 farm house, Loon Ridge Farm. They entertained, skied, played tennis and golf and enjoyed boating in the Lake Sunapee area. In retirement, Bob was a Real Estate Agent for Country Houses in New London, N.H. Bob was an active member in the New London Historical Society and Knights of Pythias.

A Memorial Service for Bob will be held at the First Baptist Church of New London, 461 Main St., New London on May 3, 2014, at 12 noon.
