Weathersfield Voters Reject School Bond
Weathersfield — Voters defeated a $700,000 bond article yesterday, 744-659, which would have paid for demolishing the sections of the former Perkinsville Elementary School and renovating the 1879 building.
The school, which closed in 2008, is now owned by the town, and voters were being asked to approve a renovation of the oldest section for use for town functions. Had the bond been approved, the project would have included more parking and field space at Hoisington Field.
Town officials said regardless of what voters decided on the bond question, money will have to be spent to maintain the school.
The board had voted to place the bond on the ballot and rejected a $1.35 million proposal that would have saved the building’s 1969 addition because voters said it cost too much.
