Reading Man, 75, Dies in Car Crash

Weathersfield — A 75-year-old South Reading man died after his vehicle left the road and struck several trees Monday.

Donald Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene after police responded to a single vehicle accident on Route 106. The accident occurred at about 11:15 a.m., north of the Weathersfield transfer station.

Route 106 was shut down for about two hours following the accident while emergency personnel worked at the scene, Weathersfield Police Patrolwoman Jen Hutchins said. The scene was cleared about 3 p.m.

Reynolds’ mid-sized truck left the road, striking several trees before coming to rest on the driver’s side over an embankment. When first responders arrived from the West Weathersfield, Reading and Ascutney stations, they found the vehicle about 15 feet off the road. Hutchins said the area right off the road is wooded and then opens into a swampy field.

A woman who answered the phone at Reynolds’ home declined to comment. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, according to Weathersfield police. An autopsy is pending, but speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors, Hutchins said. Reynolds was wearing a seat belt.
