Letter: Crossroad Farm Now Preserved
To the Editor:
It is with gratitude and excitement that I can announce that nearly 150 donors helped the Vermont Land Trust and the Thetford Conservation Commission reach our goal of raising $60,000 to protect the productive and scenic Crossroad Farm.
Earlier this year, Janet and Tim Taylor embarked on an effort to permanently conserve their beloved 60-acre Crossroad Farm in Post Mills. The Vermont Land Trust helped them successfully apply for a major grant from the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board. The land trust and the Thetford Conservation Commission also teamed up to raise an additional grant-required match of $60,000 through local supporters. The local fundraising campaign ran through the summer and fall and was completed at the end of last month, thanks to the generosity of the many neighbors and friends of Crossroad Farm.
The Thetford community and its visitors can now rest assured that one of the region’s finest vegetable farms will be protected in perpetuity with a conservation easement by mid-February.
On behalf of the Vermont Land Trust, I offer my heartfelt appreciation to the many donors from the Upper Valley who thoughtfully contributed and are a part of creating this agricultural legacy. With their help, Crossroad Farm will continue to thrive, producing fresh, local produce for a long time to come.
